Liga Privada has been a hit for Drew Estate since its debut in 2007. The bold smokes are in high demand, making them tough finds for many smokers. The brand is even rarer outside the United States, which prompted Drew Estate to launch Liga Privada 10 Selección de Mercado, a special version strictly for sale in international markets. Now Drew Estate has expanded that international line with a new size built to showcase the wrapper leaf on the cigar.

Liga Privada 10 Selección de Mercado Corona Viva made its debut last week at a United Kingdom tradeshow. With a blend Jonathan Drew describes as “aggressive, but balanced,” the Corona Viva measures six inches long by 46 ring. It’s the fourth size in the line, joining the Toro, Robusto and Corona Doble sizes, and like the others in the line it has an uncut foot and a twisted, ornate head. The relatively thin size, says Drew Estate, accentuates the amount of flavor delivered by the wrapper, a Criollo leaf from Connecticut. The binder is from Mexico’s San Andrés Valley and the remainder of the blend is a mix of Honduran and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. They come in boxes of 10. Pricing information has not been disclosed.

Years ago, non-Cuban cigars were rarities outside of the United States, but today cigar smokers around the world are showing increased interest in cigars from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and Honduras. In Europe, these tend to be called New World Cigars.
