Now he has turned his mind to men of verse. His newest brand, Metapa, pays tribute to Rubén Darío, considered one of the greatest poets in the Spanish language. The cigars started shipping to retailers today.

Made in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez, Metapa is a regular-production line rolled with an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper—a first for Foundation—around a Connecticut broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan fillers grown in Estelí and Jalapa. It’s offered in two versions: Claro or Maduro.

Both lines come in the same four, softly box-pressed vitolas: Robusto, measuring 5 inches by 50 ring gauge ($15.50); Corona Gorda, 5 1/2 by 48 ($14.50); Toro, 6 by 52 ($16.50); and Double Corona, 7 by 54 ($18). All of them are packed in boxes of 10 cigars.

The name Metapa comes from the Nicaraguan town where the poet was born, which was renamed Cuidad Darío in 1920.
